SUMMARY:British Beer Fest
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the British Beer Fest\, an exciting celebration of British and Irish beer styles\, held each year in April. Sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA)\, this competition is open to British and Irish beer styles\, as well as cider and mead\, and uses the latest Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) beer\, cider and mead guidelines. \nIrish Stout\, category 15B\, has been selected for this year’s Lucci Cup competition. The Lucci Cup is named for Susan Lucci\, who was nominated and failed to win a Daytime Emmy Award 17 times\, but finally won on her 18th nomination. This award is dedicated to all brewers who enter competitions and never seem to win the top prize. \nAs of 4/3/26\, entries are still open. Judge and Steward registration is also open. We always need help\, so please consider serving as a volunteer.

SUMMARY:Big Brew 2026
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for Big Brew 2026! This is the AHA’s (American Homebrewers Association) celebration of National Homebrew Day!\n\n\nThanks to Columbus Brewing Company for once again hosting us at their production facility (2555 Harrison Rd\, Columbus OH 43204) and for producing a batch of wort that homebrewers may take *FREE of charge* to boil onsite or to take home. It is a big honor that CBC takes such great care of us.\n\n\nThere are three official recipes for Big Brew 2026 and we selected Monk’s Ration Trappist-Style Single. CBC may adapt the grain bill slightly to use ingredients that they have in stock. They are aiming to hit as close as they can to 13.3P OG. Homebrewers will collect wort from the mash. You’ll be responsible for using your own hops\, yeast and other additions. You do not need to follow the recipe. You can take enough wort to make two batches\, and change up the hops and yeast. Consider picking up your hops and yeast from Buckeye Brewcraft at their new location in Gahanna.\n\n\nSaturday\, May 2 at 9 am\n\n\nSet up your kettle on the west side of the building. Gas systems only; no electric hook-ups.\nOr come with a carboy or a bucket\, or two\, to take home wort.\nYou can definitely boil one batch and take home another batch from the mash\, as CBC always has plenty of wort.\nCBC will be ready with wort around 9:15 am.\nEven if you’re taking wort to go\, you can still stick around and socialize a bit!\nCBC’s taproom will open at 11 am. Once you’ve packed up your equipment\, why not show them thanks by grabbing a pint and some food?\n\nBasic Packing List\n \n\nKettle\, sanitized fermenter\, chiller\, and all hoses and other equipment you need for a boil and to rack into your fermenter.\nRecipe – the official one or your modified one.\nHops\, yeast\, and any necessary kettle additions.\nTent\, table\, and chairs as necessary.\nCheck the weather and bring as needed: layers\, sunscreen\, umbrella.\nDrinking water.\nHomebrew or other fun beers to share.

SUMMARY:2026 SODZ Summer Picnic
DESCRIPTION:Location: \nCentral Ohio Anglers and Hunters Club \nTime: \n10 am – 12 pm – optional shooting\n12 pm – official start of picnic \nAll members in good standing are invited and may bring a “plus one”. Children and dogs are welcome as long as they stay under your control.\nThis is where we will judge the Iron Kettle beers brewed on site at Buckeye BrewCraft (scheduled for 6/13/25). If you have an Iron Kettle entry\, but are unable to attend the picnic\, send it with a friend. You need not be present to win. \nHere’s what to expect: \n\nThe lodge has a full kitchen and indoor bathrooms.\nSODZ will provide a catered lunch from Chipotle for members and guests.\nMembers may bring additional snacks\, desserts\, and soft drinks. There will be outlets to plug in slow cookers\, etc.\nWe will set up the club jockey boxes inside the lodge\, so bring your kegged homebrew!\nYou’re also welcome to bring any commercial beers to share.\nThere is a picnic shelter and a fire pit\, but bring your own lawn chairs\, picnic blankets\, lawn games\, etc. for use outside.\nThere’s a playhouse for kids.\nCamping: you can also bring an RV or a tent and any camping gear if you’d like to camp on the grounds overnight (bathrooms will be accessible).\nAccess to the Little Darby Creek trail will be restricted while shooting is in progress (obey posted flags and instructions).\n\nRange Info: \n\nNon-members must sign a waiver.\nAny shooter should bring their own firearms and safety gear. The ranges are outdoor.\nPistol ranges: 25 and 50 yard ranges with steel knock down targets. These are for pistol caliber ammo only.\nRifle range: 100 yard range. Use rifle cartridges here only – not on the pistol ranges.\nFor those without their own gear\, Rick and Ron will bring a couple guns and safety gear to borrow.\nNo drinking before shooting\, and obey all safety instructions.\nAny questions – see Rick Doerr or Ron Sleppy\, who are COAHC members and our hosts.

SUMMARY:SODZ Equipment Swap
DESCRIPTION:Longtime member AJ Zanyk is no longer brewing and has cleaned out his home brewery. Some of his larger items are for sale at Buckeye BrewCraft. Additionally\, AJ has a lot of great equipment that he would like to give to club members for free (pots\, kegs\, hoses\, clamps\, fittings\, chillers\, books\, etc.). The items are currently residing in a garage at Dave Curran’s mother’s house in Hilliard. We’re using this as an opportunity to hold an equipment swap and informal beer share at the garage. Anyone can bring homebrew equipment\, books\, etc. that they want to pay forward to another member (no sales\, only free items). \nImportant to know: \n\nThere are gates to enter the community. If they’re not already open\, pull up close to open them.\nBring an empty box or a bag to take home any items you find.
