Sorry for the delay. Here’s a quick recap of this month’s meeting:
- The meeting was held in the Underground at Barley’s Brewhouse.
- The club competition for February was British styles and there were nearly twenty entries.
- Everyone was welcomed to an informal 25th anniversary meeting for the club.
- Three new members were welcomed.
- A mention was made about Big Brew, which will be held on Saturday, May 2nd. We hope to again hold it at Columbus Brewing Company, which has hosted it multiple times in the past.
- All members were reminded to keep brewing their entries for British Beerfest, which will be held on May 16th.
- Mitch McGreal gave an update about our barrell project in conjunction with DRAFT and CMI. More details to follow.
- Officer voting is coming up at next month’s meeting. All current members are interested/willing to continue serving in their positions, but anyone also interested in running should let a board member know.
- The big event of the evening was a special firkin that Angelo created for the Anniversary. The beer was a strong Scotch ale with cacao and vanilla added. (A big thanks to Jim Sudduth for memorializing the tapping of the firkin by Jason Wing. To see the video, check out the SODZ Facebook page.)
- The club had a toast to celebrate the milestone and then the microphone was made available to anyone who wanted to share memories and stories of their time in the club. It was great to hear from several people, who were some of our earliest and latest members.
- First place in the club competition was won by Brian Huntley. First place in Brewer of the Year standings is shared by Eric Saas and David Curran.
- The next meeting is Monday, March 16th at Ill Mannered Brewing in Powell. The club competition for the month is sessionable beers (4% alcohol or less).
