Welcome to SODZ
Founded in 1995, the Scioto, Olentangy, and Darby Zymurgists (SODZ) is a 501(c) non-profit dedicated to promoting the craft of homebrewing (view our bylaws). Named after three major rivers that run through Columbus, Ohio, our name is a nod to the most important ingredient in beer—water—and a reminder that we like to keep the good beer flowing!
Whether you’re a seasoned homebrewer, just getting started, or simply love great beer, cider, or mead, SODZ welcomes you. Our members include homebrewers of all experience levels, cider and mead makers, and passionate beer enthusiasts who love to learn, share, and grow together.
Membership includes
- Monthly club meetings hosted at different Central Ohio breweries
- Two AHA-sanctioned homebrew competitions each year
- Special events for the AHA’s Big Brew Day and Learn to Homebrew Day
- Educational sessions including off-flavor sensory training and style tastings
- An annual Summer Picnic and a Holiday Party in December
- Ability to borrow SODZ-owned equipment (jockey boxes, a grain mill, a 50gal kettle, and more)
- Networking opportunities—many of our members have gone on to careers in commercial breweries!
