SODZ April 2026 Meeting Recap

by | Apr 21, 2026

Thanks for coming out to Honest Friend Brewing for our April meeting last night. The early birds got a tour from co-owner and head brewer Chris Carter. Apologies to those who arrived later; there was a miscommunication about a second tour.

Our Club Competition theme was Hopapalooza. Thanks to our judges Daniel Dugan and Jared Parko. Here’s who placed:

  • 1st: Chris Woodley’s IPA
  • 2nd: Scott Elliott’s Stone Quarry NEIPA
  • 3rd: Dave & Mike’s Genesis West Coast IPA

Congrats to all! Check the Leaderboard for current standings toward Brewer of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

The election was held for the new SODZ Board. New officers will be on board for May 2026, serving through April 2027. Thank you to outgoing board members Jessica Clark Royster and Bill Koeppen for your service!

2026-2027 Board:

  • President – Sandy Hugill
  • Vice-President – Jeremy Eberle
  • Secretary – Jared Parko
  • Treasurer – Kelly Woods
  • Membership Director – Aaron Davis

Members also approved the updated bylaws that Sandy emailed last week. Technically, members in good standing still have until 4/23/26 to dissent (to allow a full week for review). The new document is expected to be approved and posted to the website by the end of the week.

Jessica provided a verbal Treasurer’s Report. Our finances are in good standing with positive balances in our checking and Paypal accounts.

Longtime SODZ member AJ Zanyk is selling several pieces of homebrewing equipment, beer memorabilia and other items that he can no longer keep. We are reaching out to club members to help AJ organize and list these items for sale. Please contact a board member, or David Young at Buckeye Brewcraft, if you can help.

Speaking of Buckeye Brewcraft – they are indeed up and running in the new location. Their online contact info hasn’t been fully updated yet, but the new address is 1102 Gahanna Pkwy, Gahanna OH 43230. Hours are Wednesday-Saturday 11am-6 pm, and Sunday 12-4 pm.
