Pints for Prostates

SODZ has decided to promote a fund-raiser for Pints For Prostates, by sponsoring the spring Maibock tapping at Gordon Biersch. The tapping event will be Thursday, April 17th. The tapping will follow the usual format from Gordon Biersch, running fromĀ 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with a special tapping from their keg atĀ 6:30 PM.

Pints for Prostates is a national grassroots organization that uses the universal language of beer to reach men with an important message about having regular health screenings and early detection by making appearances at beer events across the country. They also support the US TOO International Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network, as they support, educate and advocate for men with prostate cancer and their families. They also support the Prostate Conditions Education Council, which organizes free health screening clinics across the country.

The organization was founded by Rick Lyke in 2008, who is a beer writer and prostate cancer survivor. Pints for Prostates works with healthcare providers, organizations and suppliers, brewers, restaurants, retail stores, beer industry groups and other interested parties to bring the message of prostate health to men.

Gordon Biersch has supported Pints for Prostates in several of their brewpubs across the country, and they are very happy to see our local Gordon Biersch partner with SODZ to join in this promotion.
We plan to raise money by selling raffle tickets, having a 50-50 drawing, and having promotional materials available from Pints for Prostates at a special table. Gordon Biersch will also be contributing to this effort as well. A planning committee has been put together for the event. Tom Rees, Jeff Tayner and Geoff Towne have graciously offered their time to help plan the event. We will need the involvement of others during the event, and we are counting on every SODZ member to be a part of this special evening. Please consider bringing family members, and also potential new members.

Stewart Miller, the general manager of the Columbus Gordon Biersch, and Keith Jackson, brewmaster, are very excited about partnering with SODZ for this event. It will be up to us to make this Maibock tapping one of the biggest Gordon Biersch has ever hosted.
